Scenes from the Harrison County Fair

Here are some of the scenes from the Harrison County Agicultural and 4H fair.

The Homemaker's had another successful year with lots of open show entries in flowers, crafts, garden, foods, etc. This was only about half the flowers that were checked in this year. I'm glad I don't have to judge them!

Say "It's HOT", Nancy!

Because our fair is always the last week of July/first week of August, one thing you can always count on is HOT weather! This year was no exception. However, this year we had the luxery of the bathrooms being air conditioned (the only AC on the fairgrounds). I made sure to drink lots of fluids this week...

The 4H Beef Show

The kids had a good time showing their animals at the shows, regardless of the heat.

This little fella was one of our youngest 4H members- and he had one of the largest beef animals. He didn't let his size deter him from his task...and did a good job of keeping his animal under control, even though it did it's best to leave the ring and head back to the barn before his class was over.

The 4H Dairy Goat Show

This little girl was working it for the judge in her pink cowgirl boots during showmanship at the dairy goat show. She has a flair for the dramatic, which I'm sure will make life interesting for her parents in the next several years.

Drive for Grand Champion.... who will be crowned as top goat? The suspense builds...

The 4H Swine Show

As luck would have it, the swine show fell on the hottest day of the week. Ironic, since swine are the species least equipped to handle the heat. Pigs don't sweat, you see. Which then makes me wonder where we got the expression "sweating like a pig"... but I digress...This young man was disappointed with his placing in his class, but that is part of showing your animal. Not everyone can have first place- although just about everyone gets a blue ribbon!

I think this little guy needed a few more pockets for all his stuff! Showing hogs is a high maintenance endeavor.

This is a sweet kid that did real well with his hogs at the fair this year- as did his older brother.

And thus concludes another 4H fair in Harrison County...

But don't worry- I believe the state fair starts next week- so there will be plenty more entries that have kids, their animals- and HOT weather!
