Hummingbirds

A few weeks ago, we put out some soap by our birdfeeder as an attempt to keep the deer from treating it as an all-night-all- you-can-eat buffet. While it didn't seem to deter the deer any, we did notice that we had a hummingbird that was trying to eat the soap. I guess he wanted to be "zestfully" clean. Since I had confirmation we had hummingbirds, I wanted to get a feeder. And boy oh boy do we have hummingbirds! I've counted as many as FIVE out at the feeder, zooming in and out to get a sugar fix- as if they need any more sugar.
These little creatures just amaze me with their little wings going a million miles a minute and they are very territorial- and agile creatures. So tonight I headed out with my camera (set on the "motion" setting) as they don't seem to mind me standing right by their tree. In fact, one almost flew up and ate out of the feeder when I brought it back out with a refill - which startled me a little bit. I guess our service is too slow for the hummingbird standards at the Held birdie cafe.

Glad I set it on "motion"- that gray blur on the picture is the hummingbird as it zoomed away.

This fella held still long enough for me to zoom in on him. I assume it's a "him".
