Nick and I spent the week in Indy attending the Galaxy 3 conference. What is Galaxy, you ask? Every five years, all six of the Extension professional associations come together for a conference. Sounds exciting, right?? No worries- there was a Starbuck's on just about every corner, so I was able to stay caffinated all week. Indiana was the host for the conference, so Nick and I stayed busy with various volunteer commitments. He worked at the welcome table... and I... in a momentary lapse of judgement... lead the "Health and Fitness Walks". I thought it would be a great way to get a few walks in and fulfill my volunteer duties. The problem was the walks started at 6am... and I am NOT a morning person. But I knew there was a Starbucks latte waiting for me when we finished.
Thursday was my favorite day of the conference. Nick and I skipped most of the conference activities and took ourselves on a tour of Indy, which included Borders and the mall. Since marriage is all about compromise- we also went to the Indiana War Memorial.
The conference was ok. Since NACAA (National Association of County Ag Agents) had their annual meeting in July (during fair week), there weren't too many sessions that pertained to ag programming- and even fewer posters. But got some good ideas for fun ag youth programming that I might need to steal.
The most frustrating thing that happened this week is "tv man". Who is tv man, you ask? TV man is the guy that had the room next to us that must be near deaf and fell asleep with the tv blaring at full volume. The walls are thin- and we weren't interested in listening to WWF or whatever loud thing he happened to be watching. Thankfully, after the first night, some pounding on the wall, a trip down to the front desk to plead for earplugs, and a failed attempt to wake the guy up, he turned the volume down enough that we were able to sleep reasonably well the rest of the week. So here's the lesson for all you tv sleepers out there- and you know who you are... when you stay in a hotel... make sure that the volume is at a reasonable level so that when you fall asleep, everyone in the rooms around you can fall asleep too!
