LOST

I don't have to be marooned on an island to get lost. Actually, for me, it doesn't take much at all.
Being a good co-worker and a good wife, tonight I agreed to help host the Perry Spencer County Crop Day in Fulda. Nick had another meeting tonight, and asked me to cover his host wit hthe most responsibilities. Since he's taking me to Florida for a beach filled vacation, I agreed.
He sent me directions to the Sportsman's Club in Fulda...which is a small town in Spencer County. I've been there for the Turtle Soup at the Catholic Church...but didn't drive, which means I didn't pay much attention on how to get there.
Here's the directions from his email...
  • Take CR 1600 from Santa Claus, take a left at the T and follow to Fulda.

In Fulda, the road will T again. Take a right and follow a short distance to the next stop sign. This will be SR 545.

Head straight onto SR 545 and follow into town. At the church, turn right onto CR 1550.

Follow CR 1550 and take the second right (Jackson St.). The Fulda Sportsman Club will be ahead on the left.

This doesn't sound hard...but in an instant message he sent me at work (while I happened to be doing something else, thus not paying attention) he said 1600 is the road that runs behind the farm. I was thinking it was the road that runs by the house...but this was incorrect. He was talking about the road that runs behind the pasture...which is a totally different road. And thus my trouble began. Unfortunately, I left the directions I printed on my desk at work, but decided I didn't need them since I had gone over them with Nick over the phone.

Off to Fulda I went, in the dark and rain and instead of taking Co Rd 1600 per my husbands directions...I took Co Rd 1500...which is gravel...full of ginormous muddy potholes...and is basically slightly wider than a pig path. As I was driving through the mud and trying to dodge the potholes that were probably going to break a tire rod, I was wondering why in the world he would be having me take this road. When I finally reached the T and turned left- per his instructions, I realized that I had ended up on 545 without having to take the other steps he mentioned in his email and was coming into town from the opposite direction that he had told me.

Thankfully, after a bit of driving around in the dark and the rain, I found the Fulda Sportsmans Club... and like I always do when I'm not sure where I'm going, I went back the same way I came and took the muddy, gravel road back through the dark woods and dodged a few critters and potholes- hoping the entire time that I stayed on the road and didn't end up in the mud and need to call Melvin for daughter in law rescue.

I gave Nick a bit of grief when I got home- asking why I ended up in the wrong place- and telling him my tail of potholes, critters, and dark forests with fallen tree limbs. It wasn't until we got on Google Map that we were able to see my error...which he wants me to make sure I let you all know, it was MY error, and not his directions.

Thankfully, CR 1500 lets out on 545...and I didn't end up really LOST. Because Verizons network of people that follow you around in the commercials were apparently on a dinner break and I had zero bars in Fulda.

I have requested a county map...and will be spending $8 for a car wash.
