I'm not a huge fan of valences, but that is me. It's too country. But that's me. What ever you choose, make sure to take a paint chip with you. Don't hesitate to go outside with the fabric and sample and see it in the natural light as opposed to the store fluorescents. It can make a huge color difference in the two lights. Also, take a couch and/or pillow fabric sample. this is even more important than the paint chip. If you have furniture that is busy and has a pattern, then avoid patterned curtains. Go solid color. You don't want your eyes going crazy with too many prints.
We have a solid couch- kind of a forest green color. And solid chairs- khaki color...so I thought I could jazz it up some with the curtains... As for too country...given my location, it would be ok! :) (Cows mooing and clucking chickens in the background).
