Birds and the Bees

I am finally feeling better after my bout with the flu. I missed several days of work and a conference I helped plan, but no one complained because they didn't want me around to share my germs.
Work has been BUSY lately. This is another one of those weeks where Nick and I won't see each other until Friday. I hate it! Monday, I was in bed when Nick got home at midnight- and he was in bed when I got home at midnight last night! That would be the pitfall of both having jobs in Extension! Things are going well this week- despite some drama with speakers! Monday afternoons I host Indiana Master Naturalist. For those not familiar with the program- it's just like Master Gardener- only we talk about nature instead of gardening. I think it's more fun than Master Gardener- so many more topics! This week we had a speaker on birds of prey(see picture). He works for the raptor rehabilitation center that is in a neighboring county and he brought some birds with him for demonstration. We had a screech owl, red tailed hawk, great-horned owl, and a red-shouldered hawk. It was very interesting! And I'm happy to report that all the birds pooped on the tarp. This was very important since the meeting room we are renting is less than a year old and I don't think they'd be happy if we got owl and hawk poop on the carpet.
Tuesday night, we had our second beginner's beekeeping session. I was a little nervous when our speaker (who has been nearly impossible to reach the past 3 weeks) arrived 35 minutes late, didn't have any handouts, and no agenda (like we had asked). I was definetely sweating! But I am happy to report that the session was great and we got some great comments! PHEW!
As you can tell by this post- Nick and I haven't been doing much besides working. Things will slow down once spring comes and everyone is back in the fields!

Great title....sounds just like an extension program that's going to attract people to come and check it out. I'm so excited that you're blogging! Can't wait to read about the adventures of the Held's!
