It's a Pepper Pillow Pet!!

Snuggling on the dog bed with Pepper has become one of Rachel's favorite activities lately (much to my dismay- YUCK). But, Pepper doesn't seem to mind as long as Rachel is being nice. We had to get after Rachel today when she was CLIMBING on Pepper...but snuggling is ok. Pepper has been so good with Rachel. Good thing. Rachel loves her a LOT.

Taking Care of Her Friends

This morning, while we had our breakfast, I put Pepper in the bedroom. Because we never feed her, she sits under Rachel's high chair and drools. Not just a little drool. A LOT of drool. It's gross and I wasn't in the mood, so I put her in the bedroom. While I was cleaning up after breakfast, I could hear Rachel's Cheerio's hitting the floor. This is what I found.

Rachel was sitting on the floor by the door to the bedroom pushing Cheerios under the door to Pepper. What I couldn't capture on camera, was Pepper's tongue flicking out from under the door.

As a side note, later that morning, Rachel learned how to open doors on her own, so now she can just let Pepper out.

The entertainment never ends with these two....

Pretty, Pretty Pepper

Rachel loves her beads. She wears them around the house, out to feed her cows (recently, her word for cows is boooda. Sounds like cow to me.), and she wore them to Mother Goose time at the library. I'm certainly not going to fault her for it since I spent most of my childhood running around in an old red nightgown when I went to my Granny's house. Anyways, this weekend, Rachel thought Pepper should get to be pretty too. She dug her beads out of the toy box and put them on Pepper. (Please ignore the Pringles can. It was empty... she was hoping it would become full again if she carried it around).

Pepper, as you can tell, is just THRILLED with Rachel's need for her to accessorize. It's only going to get more fun, Doodlebug. It won't be long and she'll be dressing you up in her doll clothes! Just be thankful that scrunchies are out of style... From my own personal experience, corgi ears look great in scrunchies.

Mama's Little Helper: Feeding Pepper

Rachel is my little helper. In the last couple of weeks, she has been very helpful with feeding Pepper. We're still working on her aim a little bit, but her passion for her work is obvious.

Dog Dishes

I believe that I have posted before about Rachel's love of the dog dishes. Since most people she knows and spends time with have dogs, I'm sure she thinks that everyone's home has a bowl of water on the floor. We've used various methods to keep her out of the dog bowls... At some point, I'm sure she'll finally be able to understand that they're not really playthings. Until that day comes, we'll have scenes like this:

This was yesterday. Nick came home from work and was hoping for a few quiet moments before he went out into the heat to mow our lawn. Rachel felt it was a good time to use the dog dishes like cymbals and go in to see Daddy. Good thing she's cute. ;)

This morning, she found the dog dishes before I had a chance to put them behind the gate. The look of sheer joy on her face is priceless. Tuesday I scrubbed and scrubbed on my hands and knees to get all the grime from strawberry season off the floor. Yesterday, Rachel must have thought I missed a spot and dumped the water dish all over the floor. She's so helpful.

And through all this...there is my sweet dog, who I am certain, remembers fondly the days before Rachel when her world was quiet and her water bowl was full. To me, it looks as if she's saying... "Hey Kid! Can you at least put something in it if you're going to carry it all over the house?"

Naptime

Rachel has had a very busy social calendar this week! We're making up for several weeks suring berry season where we barely had time for trips to the grocery store. Today, all the socializing wore her right out! She took close to a 3 hour afternoon nap. Rather than work on laundry and a whole host of other things I should have been doing...I finished reading the Book Club book for this month- "Saving CeeCee Honeycut". It was so good!! I HIGHLY recommend you put it on your summer reading list. But I digress...

As I walked into my quiet kitchen... I was greeted with this sight of my beloved dog, Pepper. (She's so ladylike!)
She was taking the advice to "sleep when the baby sleeps". I guess it was just one of those kind of afternoons!

Friends

I think her face says it all.... Pepper (and Ginger too) bring on the biggest smiles on Rachel's face. Despite one minor mishap, Pepper has decided that the little noisemaker we brought home this summer isn't all that bad. And Rachel is surprisingly gentle with Pepper. A budding friendship that will only continue to grow as we introduce Rachel to foods that can be thrown! :)
