Some things don't change much...
This morning, as I ate my breakfast, I opened our local paper to the comic section. This has been my morning section of choice since I can remember. But I've expanded my morning reading just a little since I was 12. Now I include the "Ask Amy" column. I guess it makes me feel normal to read about everyone else's issues. Anyways- this morning was a little different and I'm inspired to share what I think is the best Christmas idea I've heard in awhile! It's one that I'm going to implement here and I hope you'll consider doing the same.
It's quite simple. You buy a book. You wrap it. And you leave it on the bed so it's the first gift that a child receives on Christmas morning. Amy had all sorts of statistics on how some households with kids don't even own one children's book. This is not the case for Rachel. She loves books and we read often, just like my mom read to me. In fact, not only is Rachel a card carrying member at the library, she's also an honorary member of the book club. She's happy to give her recommendations on the latest read. Her current favorite is her quacking counting ducky book but her new touch and feel animal book from Aunt Nikki is a close second.
The goal is for a million children to open a book on Christmas morning. Well, Ms. Dickenson, you can put us down for one!! Is there really any better gift than the chance to get lost in the pages of a new book?
