Just when I thought we had the bedtime issues under control, Rachel made sure to let us know that she wasn't going to give in easily. The most epic of our bedtime battles would naturally occur while Granny and Grandpa were in town. It took 2 hours, yes HOURS, to get the girl to go to bed. And it was not a quiet battle...it was complete with crying, stomping, flailing, and complete and utter meltdown. Rachel didn't fare much better, either. (KIDDING, sort of). I'm sure Granny and Grandpa got in their car on Wednesday morning and said "Aren't you glad that part of our life is over?". Meanwhile, I was waving good-bye from the living room window thinking "take me with you!!".
The past few nights have been better. I have allowed her to stay up until 9pm, even though every cell of my mommy self would much rather prefer an 8pm bedtime. But, if staying up until 9pm means that she sleeps through the night and I don't wake to the sounds of her seahorse music in my doorway at 2am, then so be it.
No where in the What to Expect books is there a Chapter on how to handle epic meltdowns while your grandparents are visiting. Believe me, I looked. Perhaps I should write my own version called "What to REALLY expect!"
For all the mommies out there- I found a great book last night. Confessions of a Scary Mommy. HILARIOUS! This is what every new mom should get at her baby shower...because it is so true.
