International Harvester

It finally dried out enough (and I use the term "dry" loosely) to start combining the beans. This season has been one of the wettest that many farmers (even the older ones) can remember and the fields have been slow to "dry". Many still have standing water. But the crop still needs to be harvested despite the unfavorable conditions.

There are few farm activities I enjoy more than riding in the combine, so you can bet that I was there with camera in hand. Enjoy the pictures!

Today I got home a little early from work...and I decided it would be a sin to let such a beautiful evening pass when I'm home early enough to go for a walk before it was dark. Pepper agreed and off we went. On the way home, I happened to look out across the corn field behind our house and there was a beautiful sunset in the trees with the empty field as a backdrop. I thought "Ooohhh that'd make a pretty picture" and headed off to find my camera.

In order to get the best angle on the picture, it required me to cross the ditch. (Don't I sound like I know what I'm doing when I talked about the angle of the picture? I don't really have a clue about anything related to photography). The ditch looked solid- so out I stepped - up to my ankles in mud.

This is SOAP!! I thought it was so cool and creative I asked the man who made them if I could take a picture. (I also bought a very beautiful bar of soap that smells divine but I will never use because it's too pretty).

Girls Night

Friday, I travelled to Corydon for a much needed girls night. It'd been way too long since I'd seen my dear friend, Nikki and we decided an evening of catching up and scrapbooking was just what we needed.

Nikki made a wonderful dinner: homemade veggie beef soup, ham and cheese sandwiches, and nacho cheese dip with pita chips. YUM. Oh and homemade brownies for dessert. Double YUM.

Then we pulled out the scrapbooking stuff and had a good time!! Nikki got a new gadget... a crop-a-gator, or crop-a-dile- or something like that...

Hope she doesn't kill me- but this picture makes me smile everytime I see it! I love you, Nikki! You're just too much fun!!

Jack-o-latern

It's Halloween week-so Nick is busy making our porch look festive. Pepper is helping by cleaning up any wayward pumpkin seeds.

Oh, Deer!!

This morning I took Pepper out before I left for work. I could hear a rustling in the corn field behind the house. I figured it was either the wind, or a deer... Pepper heard it too, but she was too busy sniffing the sniffs that she didn't pay too much attention. UNTIL the deer stepped out of the corn field. Then she froze. She didn't know what to make of that...what WAS that? The deer looked at her for a minute then realized that she was harmless- and scared stiff- and went along her merry way into the woods. Pepper took a couple steps to watch where she was going, but I think she was still confused. Poor Doodlebug...No one told her there would be strange creatures in her new backyard!
I only wish I had my camera!
